CHAPTER VIII

Bookcases, Display Cases, Storage Cabinets

OVERVIEW

Carrying on in the tradition of so much of my other work, most of these cases and cabinets are built up of a mixture of other pieces of furniture, occasional pieces of new wood, and occasional embellishments ranging from costume jewelry to hand-sewn fabric bits and hand-painted parts.



The St. Mark's Bookcase stands 7 1/2 feet high and just over 2 feet wide. American Walnut is the predominant wood in the piece. Detail of the lower portion shown.

(PHOTO DESCRIPTION) Standing 6 feet high and 3 1/2 feet wide, the Venice Bookcase was built up of various types of Maple over the steel frame of a Social Securities Administration office unit.

Parts of several old oak desks from U.C. Berkeley were used in this Tall 20-drawer Case Underneath the wood is a steel "data-media" cabinet originally made to store early computer punch cards. Umbrella at left for scale.

A curious 5-foot long, glass-top display case, The Circus Peticoli presents a lively collection of handmade animals. (Also listed under "Toys and Such").

A cast-stone sun relief sits atop the Rising Sun Cabinet. It is 3-foot high and has brocade fabric doors.

The unusual Rolling Rabbit Book Case , may be small as bookcases go, but as a rabbit, it is not bad at 19" high. (Also listed in "Toys and Such").
